YOUR RACE PACK

Your race pack and race number WILL NOT be posted to you in advance of the race. Instead it needs to be collected in person from the registration desks at the Cardiff Sports Expo  at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, CF10 2EQ, from Thursday the 24th March until Saturday 26th March between the times highlighted in red below. Please note that race packs must be collected by 11am on the day of the race.

You race pack will include your official race number and timing chip (attached to the back of the number), along with a welcome letter, spectator guide, official programme and drawstring adidas duffle bag which can be used at the event baggage area on race day.

You will receive your official running number in an email two-three weeks before event day. You will then need to bring this email with you to the registration desk which matches your race number along with a valid photo ID on the day of collection (eg valid passport or driving licence with photograph). If you do not own a passport or driver license, please bring another form of photographic ID together with your signed bank card and a recent utility bill for your registered address.

If you are unable to collect your race pack in person, you may send a friend or fellow runner with a letter of authority to pick up your pack for you.

We encourage runners to pick up their packs before the morning of the race to avoid queues and to ensure that you have your race number before the day. Parking is limited nearby so please consider travelling by public transport. The Motorpoint Arena is easily accessible by foot from the city centre and a 2-minute walk from Queen Street Station.

ENTERING THE RACE

 

Q. How old must I be to enter the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships 2016?

A. Entrants must be 17 years or older on the day of the race

 

Q. When do entries close?

A. Entries for the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships 2016 close on Monday 29th February 2016 unless maximum capacity is reached ahead of this date.

 

Q. I have entered the race, how do I know my entry has been received?

A. If you entered online you will receive a confirmation email shortly afterwards. If this did not happen please contact us.

 

Q. What will I receive before the race?

A. All runners who have been accepted into the race will be sent an email confirmation followed by an informative email with your runner number and information on picking up your race pack from the beginning of March.

 

Q. When and where do I receive my race information pack and number?

A. Your race pack and number can be collected in person from the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff from Thursday the 24th of March until Saturday 26th (before 11am on race day). You will need to bring your confirmation email and valid photo ID on the day of collection. Please see the Race Pack and Expo section below for more information and opening times.

 

Q. I have entered but am unable to take part, can I get a refund or give my place to a friend?

A. No, we are unable to give refunds or defer entries to any other Run 4 Wales event. You can however transfer your entry to another runner up until the 15th February 2016.

 

Please note: Never swap your race number with any other runner, as this could cause problems for our medical teams and results service. If race organisers become aware of anyone who swaps their race number they will be disqualified and reported to British Athletics.

 

REGISTRATION AND WITHDRAWAL INFORMATION

 

Q. Which category do I fall under?

A. The affiliated category is for those registered with an athletics club – membership numbers must be stated during registration and will be verified internally. The non-affiliatedcategory is for those who are not registered with an athletics club.

Please ensure all memberships are valid and in date before entering at the affiliated rate.

 

Q. How do I make changes to my registration?

A. Changes to your entry can be made by logging into your account at https://myevents.active.com/. This link is also included on your confirmation email.

NB if you try to log in via the registration page at www.cardiff2016.co.uk  then it will prompt you to issue payment again resulting in your entry being duplicated.

 

Q. I have pre-paid for spaces/group entry how do the other runners sign up?

A. Purchased pre-paid spaces? Follow these next steps:

  • Visit https://myevents.active.com to send your invitations
  • Click “Invite pre-paid team members” to issue your invitations for friends to enter free or click “Invite general team members” to invite friends to join your team and pay for their own entry. This will open up the email invitation tool.

Select the category from the drop down list and enter your friends email address(s) and click Send to send them the invitation

 

Q. When will I receive my race t-shirt?

A. Race t-shirts will be given out on completion of the race along with a medal. A goody bag can be collected at the Cardiff Sports Expo

 

Q. I can no longer take part in the race. Can I withdraw from the race and receive a full refund?

A. A participant may withdraw free-of-charge, with the exception of the processing fee taken by ACTIVE, up to two weeks after payment of the event fee. Notice of withdrawal from the event must be communicated by emailing cardiff2016@run4wales.org stating clearly the desire to withdraw and putting the word WITHDRAWAL in subject line of the email. Withdrawals will not be accepted by telephone. After the expiry of the two-week post payment period, the entry fee will not be refunded. Participants can withdraw at any point prior to the race.

 

Q. I can no longer take part in the race. Can I defer my entry to another event?

A. As this is a one-off event, entries cannot be deferred to the following year nor to any other event.

 

Q. I would like to withdraw from the race. Can I transfer my space to another runner?

A. Yes, spaces can be transferred to another runner until Monday 15th February. Links for transferring can be found in your confirmation email or on the My Events page of your Active profile.

Participants will be able to transfer their entry to another participant up to the 15th February, 2016. Any transfer to another participant will be subject to a transfer fee of £5.40. Transfers are conducted through the online entry system by the withdrawing participant and the new participant. The new participant will pay the relevant entry fees through the entry system and once complete, the withdrawing participant will automatically receive their refund from the system.

 

Q. Why have I been charged an admin fee from Active?

A. Active Network are the company who provide our registration system; the admin fee charged by them is non-refundable and is separate from the Run 4 Wales entry fee.

 

RACE PACKS AND EXPO

Q. Where do I collect my running number?

A. All runners must collect their running number and registration pack from the Cardiff Sports Expo (www.cardiffsportexpo.org) at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, from Thursday the 24th of March until Saturday 26th (before 11am on race day).

Entry to the Cardiff Sports Expo is free to both runners and the general public and will be Cardiff’s first sport, health & well-being exhibition and the largest such event ever to have taken place in Wales.

The Motorpoint Arena Cardiff can be found at Mary Ann Street, Cardiff, Cardiff, United Kingdom, CF10 2EQ. This is a short 10 minute walk from Cardiff Central Train Station and Bus station. Q. When is the Cardiff Sports Expo?

A. Cardiff Sports Expo runs from 24th – 26th March 2016 and is open at the following times:

  • Thursday 24th March 10:00-20:00
  • Friday 25th March 10:00-20:00
  • Saturday 26th March 09:00-19:00

Please note that the registration desks will shut at 11:00am on Saturday 26th March. It is not possible, under any circumstances, to collect running numbers after this time.

 

Q. What do I need to bring with me?

A. You must bring your confirmation email plus valid photographic ID (eg valid passport or driving licence with photograph) with you to collect your running number.

If you do not own a passport or driver license, please bring another form of photographic ID together with your signed bank card and a recent utility bill for your registered address.

 

Q. Can I arrange for someone else to register for me?

A. Yes, you can nominate someone to collect your number for you. The person must have a letter of authority signed by you authorising the person by name to collect your running number. This must be accompanied by suitable photographic identification for the person nominated to collect your number.

If these instructions are not followed, the running number will not be issued.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Q. Why is the price greater than the Cardiff Half Marathon?

A. The IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships is a unique event and is separate to the Cardiff Half Marathon. The cost of organising and delivering this prestigious event with superior infrastructure is contributed in part by the participants. The entry fee is competitive for a world level event.

 

Q. What do I get for my money?

A. You’ll get a quality, well organised race with good facilities and a variety of freebies, including a IAAF Adidas technical running t-shirt.

 

Q. How do I find out which roads are closed?

A. Full details of all road closures are available on our website under the Road Closure section.

 

Q. Can I get a photograph of myself running the race?

A. Yes there will be photographers around the course. Their pictures will be available to purchase at: www.marathon-photos.com

 

Q. How can I find my family/friends after the race?

A. There will be a designated family meeting area located in front of City Hall labelled A-Z.

 

Q. Where can I find more information?

Q. How can I help with the event if I’m not running?

A. Thank you for your interest. The race relies on volunteers acting as stewards and giving out drinks and medals every year. If you’re not running it’s a great way to ensure the event is a success and helps raise lots of money for charities to continue doing their vital work. RUNNING THE RACE

Q. How far is a half marathon?

A. The half marathon is 13.1 miles or in metric 21.1km

 

Q. Where are the race start and finish?

A. The race starts outside Cardiff Castle on Castle Street at 2.10pm and will finish on King Edward VII Ave

 

Q. I don’t live in Cardiff and don’t know the route, will I be able to get lost?

A. No. The course will be marshalled throughout.

 

Q. Can I walk part of the way?

A. Yes. Please note that the roads will reopen as soon as possible after the last runners. Anyone still taking part in the event will be able to complete the race, though please bear in mind that you will have to walk and run on the pavements. Please be careful of pedestrians.

 

Q. What happens if I cannot finish the race?

A. We will have medical points along the route. If you are just too tired we will have vehicles to get you back to the start/finish area.

 

Q. How old must I be to compete?

A. The minimum age is 17 yrs of age on the day of the race.

 

Q. Can I run in fancy dress?

A. Yes, we like to encourage lots of fancy dress participants – they help make the race really fun for spectators, families and runners. Please let us know if your costume is bulky.

 

Q. Can I wear headphones?

A. The organisers strongly advise AGAINST the use of personal music playing devices that will restrict your ability to hear the sounds around you on the day. Using headphones can be dangerous because it distracts people and can make runners unaware of surroundings. We occasionally will need to get emergency vehicles onto the course and may need runners to hear instructions from marshals/stewards to assist with this. We do allow the use of earphones that use bone conduction technology, which allow the wearer to listen to music while still being aware of their surroundings.

 

Q. Will there be anywhere to store my bag during the race?

A. Yes, each runner will be able to store one bag. The exact location of the bag storage facilities will be detailed in an email prior to the event.

 

RUNNING FOR CHARITY

Q. Can I raise money for any charity I choose?

A. Yes. Please contact your chosen charity to obtain sponsor forms and support.

 

Q. Do I have to raise money for a charity or good cause?

A. No, it is not compulsory – it is entirely up to you.

 

Q. What if my charity is not listed?
